A potentially intriguing character study is handicapped by some questionable make-up, stodgy direction, and muddled narrative, to make Clint’s biopic little more than a big budget documentary with expensive recreations. Leo’s good though.
Alexander Payne continues his string of fallible human stories; this time it's George Clooney's floundering father who's at the centre of this bittersweet drama. Gentle, emotive, and honest filmmaking.
Jonah Hill's last movie before shedding the pounds is an unoriginal comedy that hits a lot more than it misses, despite some awful racial stereotypes. Definitely not to everyone's taste, but it will comfortably sit alongside Horrible Bosses and Date Night in a DVD boxset.
